HOLIDAY MAKERS COMMENTS

We have been the proud owners of Le Moulin since 1991 and over this time we have asked our visitors to share their views about the house and surrounding area by writing in our Visitors Book or posting comments on line.  We are now on book 4.

We have listed below extracts from some of the very many comments and recommendations from those books and on line comments.  Visitors have also contributed by telling us of new places to go and updates on restaurants in the area.

We had a great time at your lovely property.  It is in a fantastic position, one is able to walk into the village and the area full of charm and interest that we enjoyed exploring a lot. The pool feels secluded as it is surrounded by shrubs and trees.  Also the space of the house and garden weren't to be sniffed at and we took full advantage of it, as I am sure many guests do. Rolling hills and fields stretch out for miles around and there is lots of information in the house about what to do and where to go, for both kids and adults.  A very suitable property for all ages.

We have had a fantastic time in Ronsenac at your lovely home.  I would love to tell you that we visited lots of interesting places every day, but what we enjoyed the most was just relaxing in your wonderful garden and as far as the kids were concerned the star of the show...the pool!!!   We arrived with two basic toe dippers and left with two kids that can swim like fish.  Evenings were cooking on the BBQ almost every night (its amazing what you can cook on a BBQ when you have the time). Then sitting on the patio consuming the local wine, lots of!!! The next best pastime was the kids spotting the Coypu every day... they even had names for them all and loved leaving apples trails at night.   We did visit a few local towns which were great and went to the medieval festival at Dignac on our first Sunday.  It was a really good day and the procession of musicians and jugglers through the town had the kids spell bound.   We also visited the start of stage 10 of "Le Tour" and again it was a great experience just to soak up the atmosphere of such an iconic event....even if its hard to see any actual racing, but who cares about that.   We also had our evening walks round the village with a stop at Jimmys Bar!!   All in all we had the best of times relaxing, laughing and spending time just as a family, in these busy times it was just what the doctor ordered.  We absolutley loved it. It has been many a year since Amanda has been able to chill out and read so many books on one holiday. Thank you for letting us share you home for a little while.

We had a wonderful holiday staying here in August.  The property has everything we needed and was very spacious.  There is a great outdoor area to eat and a lovely pool, which was enjoyed by all.  The large grounds of the Gite are beautiful with lots of wild life to see day and night!!! Many places to visit within a 30 -45 mins drive away including chateaux, canoing and markets.  A fab supermarket a 10 minute drive away sells everything you need.  The owners are very friendly and helpful and we will definitely stay here again some time in the future.

Kevin and Family August 2016

We have returned to Le Moulin de L'Abbaye for our summer holiday of two weeks for the second time. What attracted us was the comfortable house with all requirements to meet our expectations.  The setting is within the village of Ronsenac, which is adjacent to many pretty villages such as Villebois Lavellette and others within a short cycle or car trip and many local restaurtants recommended by Sue and Malcolm. We visited some and would endorse the recomendations. The house is surrounded by well kept pretty grounds with a fantastic well maintained swimming pool, which we were in every day, even with some trips away.  It is so relaxing to come back to Le Moulin and sit out under the veranda having dinner and drinks and watching the sun going down.  It is so relaxing to stay in with the rooms all well laid out, especially the large living room with comfortable sofas, all the refinments are included such as wifi and tv.  We shall return again.

Lovely property in a beautiful area

Had a wonderful stay, Le Moulin de l'Abbey was very well equipped for all the family. The information we were sent prior to our holiday was outstanding, very accurate and full of personal touches from the owners which really enhanced our stay. The house and grounds were very well maintained. The garden and stream was beautiful, saw lots of wildlife. Lots of good local information, plenty of pretty places to visit even though at the time of year we visited a lot of places were closed, this didn't detract from our holiday just added to the tranquility. The owners have been very friendly and responsive if we've had any enquiries.
I would recommend this property to others and would like to return ourselves in the summer months so we can make use of the pool and enjoy this wonderful house and area again.

Fantastic Property with private pool

This was our second visit to Le Moulin de l'Abbaye with our family. We were a party of 6 adults and 2 children (aged 7 and 3) and the property was a very generous size. With the huge garden, terrace and pool it is a perfect place to relax. We didn't do a great deal of exploring the area but we hope to be back in the future to do this. The information provided by the owners is very comprehensive and there seems to be lots of interesting places to visit. The property was very clean and well maintained and is like home from home. We would highly recommend this property to anyone and hopefully be back soon.

Lara Strefford - Party of 8 August 2015

What an excellent property, exactly as advertised, full of character, well furnished, fully equipped kitchen, a choice of 3 showers, plus bath & 2 toilets-so no falling out in the mornings. Clean, safe and spacious with everything you might need for a relaxing holiday.

Outside, the star of the show was the swimming pool, where the kids especially seemed to live. We were very impressed by the safety fence and self-closing gate, typical of the general attention to safety which the owners have obviously prioritised throughout. Plenty of sunbeds and cushions surrounded the pool on wide patio areas for our relaxation. The rest of the garden extends to 1 acre which gave us every opportunity for games and bird and wild life watching from the shady patio. This also provided an excellent area for alfresco dining from the adjoining BBQ.

We enjoyed visits to Cognac, Aubeterre and Brantome-including the excellent market and a super canoe trip down the river to Bordeilles. David also hired a bike & spent time exploring the many VTT routes in the area, There are loads of other interesting sights & fun adventures within an hour’s drive which we didn’t explore–next time maybe. The supermarket in the historic town of Villebois Lavalette is only 5 mins drive and has everything you need for your holiday.

Wonderful place, we shall return

David - West Yorkshire 4 Adults, 2 Kids June 2015

The house is perfect for two families, well kept, very clean, everything you need.  The gardens are wonderful and we spent many hours watching the wild life and swimming in the pool every day. Set amongst beautiful countryside we enjoyed visiting Villebois Lavalette, Auberterre and Brantome, the caves at Villars are highly recommended as well.  A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Newcombe/Trathen Party - 4 Adults 5 kids July 2013

This is our second visit to Le Moulin - this time for two weeks - and we have been looking forward to it since 2012.  Everything was just as we remembered (perfect).  Our most exciting discovery was Le Grand Etang at La Jemaye (nr Riberac) wonderful lake, beach, restaurants, play area and free kayaking and paddle boarding - a MUST visit. Visited Brantome where there was river jousting, the museum and walks round the old town at Angouleme and Aubeterre where we found a wonderful restaurant. Yet another fantastic experience.

Sparshot/Bowyer: 3 adults 4 children August 2013

Our second visit, thank you for another great week.  Fabulous accommodation for us all.  Went to Angouleme and Perigeux this time and the pool was still a big hit.  We have already established we would like to return in 2014.

Laken Party 2 Adults 5 Children August 2013

We had a fantastic holiday in this lovely village, weather gloious so tended to centre on the pool and garden, shopping in Villebois and visiting the wonderful market in Brantome.  The house is so well equipped and we hope very much to return.

(now booked 2014)

Edwards Party of 10 - 3 Generations - August 2013

The house is very, very well equipped, clean and spacious.  The pool was an instant hit with the children, as were the coypus in the stream.  The property is very peaceful with lots of room for running around and playing games in the garden.  The play area and tennis courts across the road were well used during our stay.  The Super U in Villebois is very well stocked.  Villebois itself is beautiful. We visited the chateau at La Rouchefoucauld which was lovely, especially the dressing up.  The lake at Toubiers is great for exploring and the Friday market in Brantome is well worth a visit.  As were Lac Lavaurd and the river beach at Aubeterre.  We had a lovely time.

Gemma Fenn, 4 Adults, 4 Children, August 2012

We had a brilliant time while we were here and our only regret was that we hadn't booked for two weeks.  It was very private and peaceful apart from when the kids were jumping in the pool! We had planned to visit a few places but the weather and pool meant we spent most of our days just at Le Moulin, swimming and playing with the outdoor games.  The house itself is brilliant and everything you might need.  The villiage of Ronsenac is really very small but Villebois Lavalette is only 5 mins drive away where you can find all you need in the Super U supermatket.  I would highly recommend this gite to everyone.

Ian Toomey July/August 2012 4 Adults, 4 Children

We stayed at Le Moulin for one week in August 2012. We were a party of 2 adults and 5 children (ages from 6 to 14), we have a disabled child in our group.  The weather was glorious and surrounding site seeing attractions were excellent.  Nearby Super U was brilliant for all our needs.  Pool and grounds were stunning and beautifully maintained.  Owners were easily accessible to answer questions which was very important to us with our disable requirements.  The accommodation is comfortable and clean, convenient, well maintained, safe and more than accommodated all our needs. We really want to return again next year which pretty much is the best compliment of all.
